Verbier opens this weekend
Verbier will be the first resort in Suisse-Romande (French-speaking Switzerland) to open… but just for weekends for now.
Daily opening is due to start later this month, snow permitting.
In recent days the resort has received 50-60cm of fresh white stuff, and a handful of pistes are in good skiable condition.
The following lifts will be open:
Gondola Le Chable-Verbier, 8.40am-4.45pm
Gondola lift Verbier-Les Ruinettes, 8.40am-4.15pm.
Funispace, 9am-4.30pm
Lac des Vaux (1 chairlift and ski trail), 9.15am-4.15pm.
The Olympic restaurant at the Attelas will also be open.
The last skiing in Verbier took place during July when – thanks to excellent snow conditions then – the resort opened for a weekend of summer skiing for the first time in 25 years, as we reported here.
The resort nearly opened in June too, following a Facebook vote. The vote was a resounding success. However, when the time came, the weather was too bad!
