Buying the right ski jacket

Buying the right ski jacket
Teresa Fisher

As the weather gets cooler and we hunt for our hats, coats and gloves, and start to plan our winter family holidays, now is the time to start thinking about ski kit for this season,  especially if you  have rapidly-growing kids like us, or if you’re venturing out on skis/snowboards for the first time.  You may even be able to clinch some bargains at the London Ski Show this week.  Read on to find out more…

Take it from us, there’s nothing worse than chilled children up a mountain for spoiling your holiday enjoyment as well as theirs…

PLUS it costs a small fortune to keep forking out for ‘thawing-out’ hot chocolates on the slopeside restaurants!

When it comes to jacket and ski trousers, you really do need to have the correct kit, and ski jackets are generally more expensive than normal winter outer wear – you’re paying for the more superior technology.  There are no real short-cuts and it’s worth getting it right – you can wear your ski jacket as an everyday jacket, but you cannot wear an everyday jacket for skiing!

Now, thanks to the latest clothing and material innovations, there’s no need to get cold on the pistes anymore and, if you know what to look for, it is possible to find good-quality, affordable outer ski clothing.

However, it is easy to get befuddled by all the jargon and statistical information when buying a jacket, so FamilySkiNews.com have produced a straightforward guide to guide you through all the technical data, and help you to buy the best ski kit for your family.

It's all about the look!

Remember the London Ski and Snowboard Show is on from 27-30 October – the perfect opportunity to pick up a bargain, not just in clothing but in holidays too.   And there are plenty of fun activities to keep little ones occupied while you shop (click HERE for our story ‘Twelve reasons to bring the family to the London Ski Show’).

Ski clothing outfitters displaying at the London Ski Show include Snooks, retro Mountain, Zaini, Snow + Rock and OOSC.
