December bargains

Teresa Fisher

This month has been one of the warmest Novembers on record in the Alps, and there’s still a distinct lack of snow.

But the good news is… there’s an avalanche of amazing ski deals around at present.  Here are three of the best (all subject to change and availability):

Maston Aitio cabins in Ruka, Finland

First Choice Ski to Ruka, Finland, departing London Gatwick on 13 December, staying at 4* Maston Aitio self-catering cabins (each with a private sauna) for £195pp (based on 4 sharing) – a whopping saving of £270pp (tel: 0871 664 0130; http://www.firstchoice-ski.co.uk/).

Esprit Ski to La Rosière, France, departing on 23 December, staying at the fully-catered ski-in-ski-out Chalet Le Braconnier (£2099 for a family of 3 or 4 including flights and childcare).  The Snow Club (for kids 6-8yrs) and evening Cocoa Club (6-12yrs) is actually in the chalet (tel: 01252 618300; http://www.espritski.com/).

Family Ski Company to Portes du Soleil, France, from 30 December to 7 January (8 nights!), staying in the fully-catered Chalet Rulens (sleeps 8-10, so ideal for 2 families, plus hot tub and sauna), for just £4090 (excluding travel and childcare, tel: 01684 540333; http://www.familyski.co.uk/).

There’s more good news… dropping temperatures in the past 24 hours means snow-making conditions have improved AND, dare we say it, colder air and low pressure over the Alps has been forecast from tomorrow.  If the snow starts falling as predicted, these discounted holidays are going to be a real bargain.

Snowy fun in Ruka, Finland

Here at FamilySkiNews.com, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the weather forecasts over the next couple of weeks as, once the snow starts to fall, holiday prices will start to rise.  As Nadine Hallak, travel expert for cheapflights.co.uk says “Although snow is just starting to fall in European destinations, now is the time to book – before prices shoot up and crowds move in.”
