Ski shows date clash
There will be a new ski show in the UK this year – the Ski and Snowboard Snow North. It will take place in Manchester on 25-27 October and will be run by VOS Media, the organisers of the highly acclaimed London Ski and Snowboard Show.
Ski and Snowboard have staged highly successful ski shows in London and Birmingham for years. Last year’s event, reported here by FamilySkiNews, enjoyed record numbers of visitors (11% up on previous years), thanks largely to the number of hands-on exibits, which included curling, ice-skating and free ski and snowboard tuition, not to mention bouncy castles, table football, various après-ski bars and visiting penguins and St Bernard dogs. There was even a chance to win 10,000 Free Lift Passes. It was a truly fun day out for all the family.
Earlier this week, we reported on twitter that this year’s Birmingham Ski Show would have a new sponsor – In the Snow magazine. No prizes for guessing the name of the show… it’s ‘In the Snow Live’!
Now, just days later, VOS Media have announced the launch of their new Ski & Snowboard Snow North, which will take place at Event City, Manchester on the same dates! According to Snowvole, John Cooper of the Ski & Snowboard Show was unaware of the launch of In the Snow Live, until he saw a recent press release announcing it. Apparently, he thought that the dates had been secured for his show at the NEC in 2013!
This clash begs the question – is there the market for two ski shows on the same date and less than 100 miles away?
We’d like to think so, although we fear that exhibitors and visitors alike will be unlikely to attend both shows. They may event be unable to decide which one to attend and the industry could take a hit as a result if both shows flop. Then again, two shows have to be better than one for getting more people involved in snowsports. And surely a bit of healthy competition is a good thing for the industry?….
Over the coming months, FamilySkiNews will be watching developments closely to see which show offers the public the best experiences.
VOS Media vs In the Snow magazine. May battle commence!…
