World Snow Day – bringing children to the snow

Teresa Fisher

World Snow Day – the more kids the better!

This Sunday is ‘World Snow Day’.

In fact, it is the second annual ‘World Snow Day’ – a global event coordinated by the International Ski Federation (FIS) to promote snow sports around the world.  With the slogan “Bring Children to the Snow”, the day centres on getting as many children and their families to get active and experience a variety of snowy activities.

This year 39 countries will be participating in World Snow Day, with 435 organisers coordinating the various events.  And you don’t even have to be in the mountains to experience the snow action.  Here are some of the highlights:

In Quebec in Canada, a ‘Mountain in the City’ has been constructed and ski and snowboard lessons will be offered for children.

In Siberia, the ‘World Snow forum’ will create a snow city with games and activities for all children.

In the stylish Tokyo district of Raponghi in Japan, there will be a huge freestyle skiing demo and a snow play area to give city-dwellers a chance to play in the snow.

In Norway, 99 ski resorts will be open for free skiing and snowboarding that day.
