Ski Jewel shines brightly
This coming winter, the Austrian Tirol will see the opening of the ‘Ski Jewel’ ski area, connecting the Alpbach and Wildschönau valleys – that’s double the skiing fun all on one ski pass!
After eleven long years of negotiations, and at a cost of 13.5million Euros, the Alpbach valley and the Wildschönau valley are being joined together to form the ‘Ski Jewel’ ski area.
Both areas are already well-respected in their own right. The newly combined area will go straight into the ‘Top Ten’ of Tirolean resorts for size, with 145 km of pistes served by 47 lifts, 24 slope-side ski huts and three adventure Snow Parks. It also boasts artificial snow-making on over two-thirds of all pistes.
The expansion of the ski areas is viewed as a crucial development for the survival of the smaller ski areas, as more and more skiers are drawn by the attraction of large, modern and sustainable ski areas.
